Coningham is on a small peninsula, 25
minutes south of Hobart. Situated between Snug and Kettering, Coningham is popular area
with a small sandy beach that has excellent safe swimming. Historically it has been a
popular holiday/day trip destination for Hobart residents and now it is a mix of
permanents, many of whom commute daily to the city and shacks for the
weekenders and school holidays. The north facing perspective features spectacular views of
Mt Wellington and extra warmth on sunny days.
Coningham Cottage is virtual waterfront (limited access) and provides
top quality accommodation for up to 4 people at a moderate price.
The cottage was originally built in the
early 1940s, and was one of the very few homes in the area that survived the devastation
of the 1967 bushfires which destroyed nearby Snug and surrounding houses.
We have made a series of tasteful
renovations over the last 15 years, which have resulted in the cottagy and
rustic feel, but with modern facilities to ensure comfort and convenience for all
who stay here.
Fully self contained, the cottage is set
up for a short weekend break or an extended holiday. All youll need is your food and
your favourite tipple.
The kitchen has both gas and electric
cooking facilities and a gas heater takes the sting out of the crisp early
mornings. The large lounge/dining room has a very efficient wood burning stove and a
ducting system takes extra heat to the front bedroom.
The view from the deck over
North West Bay is a striking feature and it draws you to the sunroom and deck when you
first enter the house. The double glazed sunroom onto the deck is cozy no matter what the
weather, and is a great place to spend reading, snoozing or even catching glimpses of
dolphins or shearwaters (mutton birds).
Local features such as Coningham Beach
, Snug Falls , Kettering Marina and Hotel are short drives away, whilst the Huon
Valley , Peppermint Bay , Bruny Island, the Tahune Airwalk, Dover, Kingston and
Hobart, amongst others, provide a range of destinations to explore.
Local shops and restaurants in Snug,
Margate and Woodbridge cover a wide range of choices and tastes for your selection. The
wider Channel area is blessed with wine and food outlets unique in Tasmania
vineyards, cheeses, cherries, stonefruits, berries, apples, mushrooms, ciders, quality
meats, seafood, oysters and more!
Such local features are highlighted in the
Huon Trail brochure and at www.huontrail.org.au
There is a lot to see and do in the area
and Coningham Cottage provides a delightful base and a pleasure to "come home
to" after a day exploring this lovely corner of Tasmania.
